From 1972 to 1974, Mr. Shapiro served as Maryland State Securities Commissioner, earning national recognition as one of the most effective investment officials in the country. His early legal work at Shapiro Sher established his reputation as a leader in corporate and securities law.
A trailblazer in sports representation, Mr. Shapiro founded Shapiro, Robinson & Associates in 1976, pioneering a holistic approach to sports management that combined skilled contract negotiation, financial discipline, and an emphasis on community involvement. USA Today called Ron Shapiro “one of baseball’s most respected agent-attorneys,” and The Sporting News named him one of the “100 most powerful people in sports.”
Mr. Shapiro’s four award-winning books have received an array of accolades, including recognition on the bestseller lists of The New York Times, BusinessWeek, and The Wall Street Journal. In addition, Mr. Shapiro has authored and co-authored books on corporate and securities law, and taught at The Johns Hopkins University, the University of Maryland School of Law, and the University of Baltimore School of Law. He has also guest lectured at many other institutions.
A charismatic and creative individual, Mr. Shapiro has appeared as a negotiations expert on ABC’s Good Morning America, CNBC’s Power Lunch, Mutual Radio’s The Larry King Show, National Public Radio’s Morning Edition and Talk of the Nation, ABC’s Nightline, and ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning and Up Close. In addition, he hosted a weekly talk show and a series of prime-time specials on NBC Baltimore affiliates.
His commitment to public service is equally distinguished—he has chaired more than 25 nonprofit boards and served in key roles for elected leaders and public institutions. His numerous honors include induction into The Baltimore Sun Maryland Business and Civic Hall of Fame, the American Red Cross Lifetime Achievement Award, and recognition as one of Sports Business Journal’s “Champions: Pioneers and Innovators in Sports Business.”
