J. Patrick Gill joins Shapiro Sher Guinot & Sandler as an associate in the firm’s growing Banking & Financial Services Group.
Mr. Gill represents local, community, and regional banks and other financial institutions in connection with commercial finance transactions and loan workouts. He counsels lenders in structuring, negotiating, documenting, and closing a variety of finance transactions, including real estate acquisition and development, construction lending, and secured and unsecured lines of credit. He has also documented complex commercial loan restructurings and forbearance agreements, handled the liquidation of collateral, and otherwise enforced security interests on behalf of creditors.
Mr. Gill graduated magna cum laude in 2009 from the University of Baltimore School of Law. During law school, he served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Richard D. Bennett in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Following graduation, Mr. Gill served as a law clerk to the Honorable H. Patrick Stringer, Jr., of the Circuit Court for Baltimore County.
Mr. Gill also worked as an associate for more than four years at a Maryland law firm representing national and regional banks in connection with commercial finance transactions and commercial loan workouts before joining Shapiro Sher.

Matthew A. S. Esworthy has been named to the American Bar Association Cybersecurity Legal Task Force for the second consecutive year. He will serve on the Task Force for a one-year term as the sole representative of the ABA’s Criminal Justice Section.
The ABA Cybersecurity Legal Task Force was formed in 2012 by ABA President Laurel Bellows to coordinate the national organization’s legal and policy analyses relating to cybersecurity, and to compile cybersecurity resources for ABA members. Since then, the Task Force has sponsored educational events around the country, released several publications, and advised the ABA on legislative and policy proposals.
Mr. Esworthy represents individuals and companies in civil and criminal litigation, including white-collar criminal cases and complex commercial disputes. Active in several bar associations and a frequent speaker and writer on cybersecurity, he has served for the past two years as Co-Chair of the Cyber Crime Committee of the ABA Criminal Justice Section. In addition, Mr. Esworthy serves on the board of the Baltimore nonprofit Civic Works, Inc., and of the Clarence H. “Du” Burns Memorial Fund, Inc., to which he is also general counsel.
