Shapiro Sher Expands with New Office in Cumberland, Maryland

Shapiro Sher is expanding its Corporate Practice into Western Maryland with the opening of a new office in Cumberland.

Led by Liam Rhodes, the office will serve businesses across the region, providing counsel on corporate transactions, business formation, governance, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, and other commercial matters.

The expansion reflects the firm’s continued commitment to helping Maryland businesses navigate opportunities and legal challenges at every stage of growth.

Shapiro Sher Names Dan Albright Chief Operating and Financial Officer

In this role, Albright will oversee the firm’s financial and business functions, including strategic planning, financial management, technology, and administrative operations. Working closely with firm leadership, he will help advance strategic priorities and ensure Shapiro Sher continues to deliver exceptional service to clients. As part of this transition, Renée Lane-Kunz is retiring from her current role as Chief Operating Officer but will continue practicing employment law as an Of Counsel attorney serving the Firm’s clients. We appreciate her years of service and the important role she has played at Shapiro Sher.

Dan brings more than 20 years of finance and operations experience in professional services and corporate environments. His understanding of financial management and process improvement has played an important role in strengthening the firm’s operational foundation and positioning it for the future.

Shapiro Sher Attorneys Appointed to Maryland State Bar Association Business Law Section Council

Shapiro Sher is pleased to announce that Jason A. Wasserman has been selected to serve as Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) Business Law Section’s Section Council for a one-year term, and Liam E. Rhodes has been appointed as an At-Large Member for a three-year term, both beginning July 1, 2026. Jason’s appointment follows a one-year term as Vice Chair of the Section Council.

The MSBA Business Law Section brings together attorneys from across Maryland who are committed to the continued development and improvement of business law and the legal framework that supports Maryland businesses. Through its Council and committees, the Section provides opportunities for thought leadership, professional collaboration, and public service, including advocacy before the Maryland General Assembly and educational programming for members of the Bar.

Jason and Liam’s appointments reflect their dedication to the legal profession and their commitment to advancing the practice of business law in Maryland.

Shapiro Sher Expands Banking and Financial Services Practice

Shapiro Sher is pleased to announce that Buck Davies has joined the firm as a Banking and Financial Services Associate.

Buck’s practice focuses on financial services litigation, complex commercial disputes, commercial finance transactions, and loan enforcement and workout matters. He brings a strong background in litigation and case strategy developed through both public and private practice experience.

Prior to joining Shapiro Sher, Buck served as an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he managed a high-volume caseload and prosecuted cases through trial. His courtroom experience and strategic approach to litigation add valuable perspective to the firm’s Banking and Financial Services practice.

Buck also previously served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Robert E. Cahill, Jr. in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, conducting legal research and assisting in the drafting of judicial opinions. During law school, he gained additional private practice experience supporting business law and litigation matters.

Buck earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law and his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Shapiro Sher welcomes Buck to the firm and looks forward to his contributions to clients and the continued growth of the practice.
